Action plan of Aratos Disaster Control
"Aratos Disaster Control" works in three stages Prevention, Crisis Management and Damage Assessment. Monitoring using satellite is made daily every 15 minutes for all stages of the system. This moment Aratos Technologies S.A. receives data through privately owned station to receive data from 26 satellites.
Prevention Stage
The service includes evaluation and mapping of areas whice are likely to manifest a natural disaster (flood, fire, earthguake, collapse), especially (depending on the case)in recently burnt areas, areas with rich vegetation, areas with heavy rainfall and high erosion. Based on recent satellites images and digital ground model accurately reflects the areas which are in immediate danger. Moreover, it is possible to appreciate the points in which interventions can be to reduce the risk. (This requires preperation based on the size of the requested regions, at least two weeks).
Specifically it includes the following services:
AREAS, ASSETS, INFRASTRUCTURE MAPPING. This service provides detailed area (urban, suburban, agricultural, forestal, etc.) and insfracture mapping (buildings, population centers, inhabited regions, residential area limits, roads, network of high voltage electricity) using recent satellite imagery. The main benefit of this service is that at any time, information about the topology of the region is available. This results in better planning and design of the infrascture to mimimize losses (human, material etc.) in an emergency.
MAPPING OF RISK ZONES. This service provides high resolution maps of the area of interest. It aims to use satellite imagery for mapping roads of all categories, industrial regions, residential area limits, houses, forestal areas and limits, roads etc.
FIRE RISK INDEX. This service refers to the calculation of fire risk index at a region. The calculation of the index is based on various parameters such as the vegetation index, the topology of the ground, the human intervention in nature, the history of fires, the history of floods, the ability to absorb water from the soil.
TopCrisis Stage
In detail this service includes the following:
- Immediate and detailed mapping of the region where physical disasters are detected.
- Sending maps with the imminent meteorological phenomena on the particular region.
- Rapid damage assessment and continuous monitoring of the affected areas during natural disaster.
- Sending high resolution maps and reports of damages immediately after the incident.
- Sending statement of hazardous weather phenomena (winds, rainfall).
- Sending alerts on imminent onsent of intense weather phenomena, based on mobile services (SMS) and Email, to registered users, 24 hours the day, 7 days a week.
- Also, graphical environment is provided which presents alerts and information related to the occurence of intense weather events. Main features of this application are the regular renewal and presentation of the weather phenomena, the presentation of flood hazard map, the history of floods and fires, earthquakes etc.
Damage assessment Stage
This service includes:
- High resolution digital imagery of affected region.
- Damage assessment of the affected region.
- Complete mapping of the affected area.
- The mapping will be in scale 1:5000, 1:25000, 1:100000, depending on the requirements and needs.
- It provides comprehensive and integrated assessment of damage, and involves the following benefits:
-it is used for design of rehabilitation of affected areas,
-it contributes significantly in the preperation of future programs to avoid similar disasters and in the improvement of rescue programs.
